Celebrating the 10th Annual Polonia 5K Run

The 10th Annual Polonia 5K Run took place with resounding success, drawing a large and enthusiastic crowd to Linden, NJ. This year’s event saw participation from over a hundred of runners, all eager to test their endurance and celebrate community spirit. The atmosphere was electric, with spectators cheering on the runners and a palpable sense of camaraderie in the air.

Among the notable participants was Zbigniew Brodka, a celebrated Olympian who finished fourth overall with a commendable time of 18:12.52. His presence added a special touch to the event, inspiring both participants and spectators. The Mayor of Linden, NJ, was also in attendance, showing support for the local community and the event’s charitable cause.

The race began with excitement as runners of all ages took to the streets. Davian Simon from Elizabeth, NJ, clinched the first place with an impressive time of 17:22.56, setting a pace of 5:36 per mile. Close behind were Hunter Cromwell of Linden, NJ, who finished in 17:34.73, and David Queiruga of Elmwood Park, NJ, completing the race in 17:49.92.

Magdalena Byra from Brooklyn, NY, was the first female to cross the finish line, clocking in at 20:53.76. She was followed by Alice Zhou of Elmwood Park, NJ, with a time of 20:54.81.

Participants of all ages and skill levels competed in various categories. Medals were awarded to top finishers in each age group, celebrating the achievements of runners young and old. The event concluded with a festive medal ceremony, where winners proudly received their medals amidst applause and cheer.

The Polonia 5K Run has grown over the past decade to become a staple event in the community, promoting health, wellness, and unity. This year’s event was no exception, providing a memorable experience for all involved and highlighting the spirit of togetherness that defines the Polonia community.

As the sun set on another successful race day, participants and spectators alike left with a sense of accomplishment and anticipation for next year’s run, ready to make the 11th Annual Polonia 5K Run even more spectacular.

The special guest of last year’s Polonia 5K Run was none other than Oskar Kwiatkowski, a celebrated figure in the world of snowboarding. Oskar, a prominent athlete and a consistent top performer in international competitions, has garnered significant acclaim for his exceptional skills and dedication to the sport. As a member of the Polish national team, he has competed at the highest levels, including the World Championships and the Olympic Games, representing Poland with pride and distinction.

Oskar’s achievements on the slopes are a testament to his hard work and passion for snowboarding. Known for his speed, agility, and precision, he has earned numerous medals and accolades, making him one of the most successful snowboarders in Poland’s history. His presence at the Polonia 5K Run undoubtedly inspired and motivated all participants, from seasoned runners to those new to the sport.

After the run, Oskar was available for photo sessions and autographs, providing fans with a unique opportunity to meet and interact with one of their sporting heroes. Highlights from Past Races and Events

The annual Polonia 5K Run is a standout event, distinguished among many others like it. Organized in several New Jersey cities – including Wallington, Clark, Garfield, and this year in Linden – it has garnered a loyal following and enthusiastic cheerleaders who support the runners every step of the way.

The run caters to participants of all ages, starting with children up to 8 years old for the “Dash around the Block,” and welcoming walkers and runners of all skill levels. At the event, medals and prizes are distributed to the winners in various categories, including the overall medal for men and women, age categories, and special recognition for the top three policemen, firemen, and teachers.

What sets the Polonia 5K Run apart is not just the race itself, but also the distinguished guests it attracts. Over the years, the run has welcomed some of the most celebrated athletes, including Kamil Stoch, Oskar Kwiatkowski, Adam Małysz, Zbigniew Bródka, Natalia Maliszewska, Piotr Michalski, and Justyna Kowalczyk.

Kamil Stoch, a multiple Olympic gold medalist in ski jumping, has shared his stories of perseverance and success with participants. Oskar Kwiatkowski, a top snowboarder, has inspired runners with his journey in snowboarding. Adam Małysz, a renowned ski jumper, has motivated participants with his legendary career achievements. Zbigniew Bródka, an Olympic speed skating champion, has brought his experience and passion for the sport to the event. Natalia Maliszewska and Piotr Michalski, accomplished speed skaters, have cheered for the runners and engaged with fans. Justyna Kowalczyk, a two-time Olympic gold medalist in cross-country skiing, has inspired many with her incredible career and dedication.

Despite its sporting excellence, the Polonia 5K Run also serves as a platform for giving back to the community. While the proceeds from the run are usually donated to the needs of the Polish and American Olympic Committees and the Special Olympics, this year, they will be donated to children from the Linden Kids Foundation. This commitment to supporting worthy causes further enhances the significance of the Polonia 5K Run, making it not just a race, but a meaningful event that brings together athletes, supporters, and the community.
